It is kinda hard to think about Christmas when it is 90 degrees and sunny outside, but before you know it Christmas will be here. Christmas Sessions go fast so if you’re interested in awesome photos for your Christmas Cards let me know and we’ll get you on the books.

This year I am offering Full Sessions as well as Mini Sessions. What is the difference between a Full Session and a Mini Session you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. =)

¤ A Full Session is 1-2 hours of shooting with 25-35 fully edited images in your private online gallery. There is time enough for a few clothing changes as well as location changes. Sessions are for up to 5 family members. All Portrait Collections come with Prints as well as Digital Images.

¤ A Mini Session is a 30 minute session at one location with no clothing changes. Sessions are for up to 5 family members (larger families require another session booked). You will receive 8-10 fully edited images with print release on a CD to use for your Christmas Cards. **Mini sessions cannot be purchased for newborns as the sessions last normally 2-4 hours.

¤ I will announce my Mini Session Date later this week. There will only be 6 sessions available and they tend to book up fast.

¤ My Christmas Cutoff this year is December 6th. If you book a session with me after this date I cannot guarantee that you will have your images in time to order Christmas Cards.

Last week I rented the Canon 16-35 f2.8 to give it a whirl and see what I thought. I was almost hoping I wouldn’t love it, because the $1500 price tag is a little crazy. I used BorrowLenses.com and was very impressed with the ease of renting, the quick delivery, and the convenient return.

So let me just throw out there that I am not going to get all technical or anything. There are plenty of sites that have really good reviews about this lens (trust me, I’ve been to them all)! I’m merely going to share my thoughts on the lens and a few photos I took with it.

So first off it is a little bigger than I thought it would be. I didn’t do a side by side comparison with my 24-70 f2.8, but it was almost as big as that beast. Not as heavy though which was nice. Of course it is an L lens which means better glass, better construction, and better performance. I found the photos crisp and sharp even at 2.8. The majority of reviews I read said the edges were soft, and I did find that to be true, but I think that is the case with any wide angle lens.

I photographed a model home and found the lens wide enough to get an entire main room, but not quite wide enough into all corners of a small 10×15 room. For this reason I almost wish I had rented a wider lens.

I took the lens out one afternoon to photograph some of the beauty of Bend (and I guess I was in love with star sun this day). =)

The River at Sawyer Park

Ginormous trees at Shevlin Park

The River and fly fishers at Clyde McKay River Park

And some random (and awesome) clock I ran across while driving around aimlessly one night

As far as landscape photography goes (not really my thing), the lens was awesome. Wide enough to take in some awesome landscapes and sharp all way up from 2.8.

And of course I couldn’t test out a lens without testing it on my twinzies. =)

So my overall feeling is that this lens is awesome and if I didn’t have my Canon 24-70 f2.8 I might be more inclined to buy it. However, the focal length from 16 to 24 isn’t enough to justify the purchase. If I do end up going wider I will go super wide (10/12mm), although at this time Canon doesn’t have a wider angle zoom for full frame cameras. =(

A little too much sun since it was like 110 degrees out. This was the first of many sessions I had in Las Vegas last weekend, and what an awesome way to start my weekend. Meet Kyra and Jason, soon to be married in the Caribbean…FUN!!

Not only are they gorgeous, but super sweet and fun. I had a blast shooting their engagement photos.

The sun peeked out from the clouds for all of 5 minutes so I quickly caught some fun sun before it disappeared again.

And to top off the wonderful session a refreshing glass of beer (or in my case vodka). =) Jason comes from a long line of wine makers and Kyra works in the wine/beer industry so I thought it appropriate to photograph one of the passions that they share.

Thank you SO much Kyra and Jason for a wonderful afternoon!

Wuv, True Wuv Edition:

Just one for now. Check back next week for the full Sneak Peek. =)

Almost Married Edition:

My beautiful baby sister is getting married!!!!

I was lucky enough to photograph Stacey and Jimmy’s engagement along with my other sister Kristy. We had a fabulous time and of course I love the photos! How could I not with such beautiful, sweet, loving, and fun people?!?!

I’ll throw in a little side story about the lone ranger balloon. We had the great idea to bring a bouquet of balloons to use in the session. We were snapping a few photos before introducing the balloons and POP! a few of them catch the wind and blow into the fence. No worries since we still have tons left, or so we thought. We move locations and at this time we should have just used the balloons, but nooooooooooooooo, I had other ideas, so I tied them to my trolly cart and away we go. Next thing you know the wind blows over my cart and all we hear is POP POP POP!!! POP!!POP! POP. I run over and grab the one remaining lone ranger balloon. Bummer about the balloons, but hey, at least we saved one right? =)

I won’t get all sappy (Kristy already covered that part), but I do want to say how happy I am you found someone so great and I can’t wait to photograph your wedding!!!!

So if you didn’t notice, things have been super quiet here on the old blog. Trust me, behind the scenes have been anything but!! Along with a super secret special project I’m working on I have been editing my fingers off. =) Here is a little taste of what I’ve been working on. I will have full peeks to come in the future once things settle in at the old Crazy Casa de Barr house.

First up is this handsome little man who is probably on his way overseas as I type this. His family was so awesome and I wish them all the best in their new home!

This beautiful Mama was actually one day overdue the day I shot her maternity photos. I will be meeting her new little bean this weekend and can’t wait!!

Ahhh, what can I say about this little peanut except she is gorgeous, her parents were so sweet, and their home was AMAZING!

Next up I had a family session. These sweet little girls were so fun to play with (Mom and Dad weren’t bad either). =)

Thrown in the mix was my very first wedding!! My sister and I shot our first wedding together and had so much fun. Whew, weddings are HARD work!!

My next session was a reschedule from last summer, we finally were able to get together and holy moly, how much fun I had. Not only are Mom and Dad old friends and awesome in their own right, their kids are so stinking cute and I had serious fun (as opposed to the un-serious kind)!

I got a last minute call from one of my very favorite clients and of course jumped for joy to see this handsome little man again. He is so adorable and this time I finally got some smiles!

::Sigh:: This teeny tiny bean was born a bit early and just melted my heart. She was so perfect and beautiful I could have photographed her all day!

And last, but certainly not least, my gorgeous sister and her hunkalicious husband to be!!!

My sister (love you) and I shot their engagement session this past weekend and all I can say is why did Stacey get all the photogenicability and I get none???? And yes, I like to make up words. We had such a fun time and the photos are Ah-mazing!!!

!! <- See how excited I am!!! In two weeks I will be in WPPI heaven. Not only am I taking Master Classes from some of my very favorite photographers (Jose Villa, Alycia Alvarez, and Nicole Van Valkenburgh) I will also be attending some amazing Platform Classes as well (Jasmine Star, Audrey Woulard, Brianna Graham, and Elizabeth Messina)! Seriously, this is like Photographers Heaven. I’m excited to see all of the amazing trade show booths, meet some new people, and hang out with my sister. We will be staying at the MGM on Tuesday night to get a [really] early start for our Wednesday class.

Once again a HUGE thank you to my fabulous and utterly fantastic husband for supporting my dream and taking time away from work to stay home with the twinzies while I play the days away. I <3 you!

!!!!!! <- This excitement is for the Shoot Shop I'm taking with the Masters of the Universe, Nate and Jaclyn from The Image is Found. They will be hosting two Shoot Shops March 5th and 6th and are looking for two Couples to Model for them. Head over to their blog to read the details.

And last but not least a few more photos from my super fun session with Bethany and Paul!
