Where do I even start with this lovely little girl. She was SO sweet and SO stinking cute!!! Her Mama contacted me and said she wanted some shots of her and her daughter. Like me, she is always behind the camera and doesn’t have many photos of them together. I totally get where she is coming from since I was in the same boat before my photo session with my twins last month.
Seriously - is she a doll or what!?!?! And her Mama is a beauty too! Her eyes were glowing in the light.
Despite the heat, tall itchy grass, and some strange woman in her face with a camera Little K did not fuss, whine, or cry once. She is only two so I thought that was pretty impressive!! I asked Mama what made her choose me as her photographer and she said she loved my bright and colorful photos. Hopefully these won’t disappoint!
Miss K LOVED my wicker chair and DID NOT want to get out of it. Luckily we convinced her out for a few fun shots before she ran right back to it.
It wasn’t until I got home and started processing the photos that I saw the HUGE resemblance between her and Shenzie. Little K is the brown eyed version of my green eyed girl.

Before and After Edition:
It is not often I get pictures of the babies both looking at me *almost smiling*. I just loved how bright and colorful their eyes were, so I wanted to clean the background up a bit and see if I could save the photo. A punching bag, weight, and fan do not make for good background props. =) I really didn’t expect to get rid of the background completely, I was actually trying to blur it out and darken it a bit. Imagine my surprise when I was able to easily get rid of the background completely.

For the color edit I used curves to brighten it a bit, soft light at 53% opacity, a little contrast and unsharp mask overall, unsharp mask on the eyes, burn and dodge everywhere, and burn the entire background to black. I used the clone stamp on Shenzie’s strawberry covered shirt and saved in color. I then converted it to black and white and used soft light, selective color, dodge and burn, and curves until I was happy with the conversion.
Not the worlds best photos, but much improved over the original. And of course they are my precious babies so I love it anyway!

When I look at my babies I do not see babies anymore. They are full on little kids with minds of their own. I am enjoying this stage to the fullest and cannot wait to see what the near future holds. It is true that time does fly and they grow so fast. I am a bit nostalgic of times past so I set out to capture what last little bit of “baby” they still have.
Shenzie Weather Echo Barr at 2.8 years old.

When I take photos of other peoples babies/children I start off with about 300 images and have to narrow it down to the ones that I will edit and show in their gallery. I always tell the parents that I pick the photos that “speak” to me. These first two photos speak to me in a way that brings tears to my eyes.

This is why I love what I do. To capture those special moments that make your heart hurt with love. Of course I love to take photographs. I really, really love to photograph newborns, but I think young children are my very favorite to photograph. They are so sweet, innocent, and true. Their expressions, smiles, pouts, tantrums are all from the heart. To be able to freeze those moments and give them to you is the best part of my job.

This little cutie pie was only 5 days old when I met him. Once he fell asleep he was content as could be getting moved all around. A baby after my own heart, Rock N Roll style!
I love his little chunky back rolls.
And even though Mama wasn’t into “mushy baby” stuff I couldn’t resist getting a few “mushy baby shots”. =)

iPhone Edition:
When my husband got the new iPhone (sucker) I inherited his old one. I’m not huge on keeping up with the latest technology and was all Pshaw to him about the “need” to upgrade. Well, I’m glad he is crazy because as it turns out - I LOVE it. It is pretty amazing and I love being able to have all the fun gadgets to play with. A few of my new iPhone apps are:
Camera Bag - Admittedly the camera isn’t all that great, but this app will help you have fun with your iPhone camera. You can take or edit photos with fun tools like fisheye, helga, lomo, cinema, and much more. Here are a few examples:

As you can see the quality isn’t that great with the iPhone, but I still have fun with the crappy photos. =)
SmugWallet - I have been a Smugmug user for years and years for my personal photos so of course I LOVE this app. You do need to have Smugmug galleries set up to use this. Now instead of having to upload photos to the built in photo library, I can sync whichever Smugmug galleries I desire.
So there you have it. If you have an iPhone and are crazy about photos like me then these apps will help you waste lots of time. =) Enjoy!
